A few days ago, navigating on YouTube, I heard a song by Shaney Poo. I liked it so much that I didn't stop listening to it all weekend, when I knew every letter of 'Club Shane' I realized that I had to invite him to the blog to talk about his unique sound, his creative process and inspire more people to follow their dreams. I'm sure that Shaney will be a very successful singer, his songs are incredible and I hope you will be inspired as much as I did talking to him.

Discover when he will release his new music and know a little more about the life of this amazing artist.

1. We love your unique sound, tell me: How do you create your new songs? What do you inspire?

Thanks, I love unique things. I just create from the heart, from my gut instinct. I don't like to treat music like a business plan or a formula. I love music that feels free from the heart, that's how I create, freely. I get inspired by everyday life. Mostly by the life situations we all go through. If I had a great day or not so great day my music will reflect. I'm inspired from my imagination and the things that made my happy as a child, that always puts me in a great creative space.

2. Did you want to be a musician since you were a child?

I had no intention on being a musician before I was like 17. I did always want to be an artist though. I started drawing when I was like three, I used to draw a lot and I still do. Over time the art just evolved into songwriting then recording and eventually performing. Music really became a reality when me and my friend started recording on his laptop for fun. From there, the rest was history.

3. What drew you to the music industry?

I don't really think industry when I think music. I treat them separately. Right now I'm not technically in the industry even though I do deal with industry people sometimes. I just create what I want to create, if you enjoy it then I'm happy if you don't enjoy it I'm still going to be happy.

4. Our favorite song is 'Club Shane', what is your favorite song? How was working with Chei Afrique?

Woord, I love "Club Shane" too. That song is one of those examples of creating the energy that made me happy as a child. I recorded it in 2016 but put it to the side to do other types of music. But when 2018 came along, I knew it was time to do something with it. I haven't released my favorite song yet, I'm saving it for a special occasion, a future project. I've been working with Chei Afrique since 2014 I think. It's always a chill, open new vibe when I'm working with her, I always know what to expect.

5. We want our fans to know the music you like, for that reason we invite you to make a playlist for Spotify with your favorites.

I listen to everything.

6. We know you're working on your new material, will it be an album or an EP? What genre we will listen to?

Yes I'm always making new music but this specific project I've been working on for like 2 years now. It's been a long process cuz I really wanted to make it sound right. I'm handling most of the production myself like I did on my song "Goldmine". I'm not going to say which genre it is but just know I getting back to my roots. I call everything I release a project because albums don't exist like it's just a project to me.

7. How was the creative process of the new album?

I did a lot of sampling of lessor known songs. I really love live sounds natural instruments, makes me move inside and out. I always want to create music that will outlive me, so imagine all the nights spent working on this project and the all spliffs I had to roll just because. When you add up all the traveling, shows and real life things I had to deal with along the way, I'm just glad it's almost done.

8. When can we enjoy your new music?

Soon! This spring 2019. We coming!

9. If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

I haven't been in the industry like that yet, but based off what I've experienced I just wish people wouldn't play mind games with artist. You know, those type of people who say one thing but then do the opposite. Being genuine goes a long way. I wish we had more of that.

10. How can we find your social networks?

Just type my name Shaney Poo on Instagram or YouTube, you'll see my face pop up.

We are millennials, but cooler.
